|Abstract: ||This investigation deals with the molecular analysis of genetic diversity in French bean cultivars using DNA markers and is perhaps the first report of its kind with respect to the genotypes present in India. Being an introduced crop to India from Europe in 17th century, French bean has become one of the most important vegetable, which underscores on the need to look in to the crop improvement aspects using the available crop diversity in India. In this investigation nine random primers (operon)have been used to analyze the molecular diversity of French bean accessions collected from 7 different agroclimatic zones of India. The present study was aimed at generating the DNA profiles for selected 41 genotypes which were morphologically diverse, using nine operon random primers. The binary data derived from the profile of 41 genotypes was used to develop a distance matrix displaying the pair wise genetic distance between the genotypes. The cluster diagram drawn out of the distance matrix, gave grouping of various genotypes into two major clusters of which the latter was further subdivided in to two subclusters. The molecular dissimilarity values ranged from 4% to 45% suggesting a narrow genetic base within the Phaseolus vulgaris cultivars of India. Principal component analysis revealed two major clusters similar to the dendrogram generated by cluster analysis.|
