Abstract: With a view to determine the optimum leaf area required for the development of bunch in Thompson Seedless vines trained to bower, the contribution of leaf area for bunch and berry weights, % of water berries, fruit quality and Brix yield/bunch was studied by allowing varying number of leaves per bunch. Bunch and berry size and Brix yield/bunch increased while the percentage of water berries decreased with increasing leaf area allowed per bunch. Fruit quality as judged by the TSS and total acid contents of the berries was not influenced by leaf area. A leaf area of 2650 square centimeters per bunch was determined to be optimum, considering together the bunch and berry weight, % of water berries and Brix yield per bunch.
