Abstract: A new method has been developed for the estimation of L-dopa using HPLC. The new method was compared with already established method for accuracy and reproducibility. In this method L-dopa from Mucuna pruriens seed was extracted using 0.1M orthophosphoric acid. The extracted L-dopa was analyzed in HPLC using sodium orthophosphate buffer (pH 2.8) as mobile phase. The analysis could be done using single pump. The L-dopa peak appeared at retention time 3.5 to 3.8 minutes. The cost per sample was worked out to be Rs. 0.25.
